Gala Committee Dreams of Celebrating "Met we on hill, in dale, forest, or mead, – A Midsummer Night's Dream Details of South Coast Repertory's 45th Season Gala, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," are already beginning to take shape, with committee members having their second general meeting April 9 to discuss concepts for decor, underwriting, entertainment and event design. Presiding over a delicious lunch served up in the Argyros Lobby, Gala Chair Jean Weiss thanked the enthusiastic committee for their hard work — several tables for the Sept. 6 event at the St. Regis Monarch Beach have already been sold! — and Gala Designer Tom Buderwitz presented early thematic drawings that illustrated how the hotel ballroom might be transformed. Think: A non-literal forest canopy ... contemporary elements ... ever-changing colors. Also on the drawing board: a lawn cocktail reception featuring a fantasy forest ... free-form sculptures ... twilight and twinkling lights. Why a summer-themed gala in September? Well, the story goes that two young theatre graduates named David Emmes and Martin Benson met for coffee and conversation one night in the summer of 1964 and outlined their vision for a dynamic new theater on a paper napkin. For Emmes and Benson, SCR has become one dream-realized, endless summer. Let's celebrate! To reserve a table or buy tickets: Call 714-708-5518. HOME • TICKETS • CONTACT US • SITE
