Welcome to SCR’s nationally-acclaimed adult acting, playwriting and screenwriting classes, taught by top professionals in their field.

This extensive slate of courses is designed for both career-minded professionals and those interested in personal growth and development. Choose from this slate to create a program that suits your individual pace and interests.

Classes are held in the theatre’s state-of-the-art Education Center, specially designed to meet the study and performance needs of students. Training takes place in classrooms and on stages in the Folino Theatre Center near South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. At the heart of a dynamic theatre environment, SCR is in Orange County, just an hour from Los Angeles’ film and television industry.

Tuition: $295 Per eight-week class.

Acting Classes

Fundamentals of Acting: Act I Basic Skills 
Tuesdays, 7-10 p.m., June 18 - August 6, 2013
Learn the fundamentals in a lively and entertaining class that includes exercises in the basic skills of improvisation, communication and monologues. Recommend for newcomers to acting, or as a refresher course.

Fundamentals of Acting: Act II Scene Study
Tuesdays, 7-10 p.m., June 18 - August 6, 2013
Take the next step in acting by studying and performing scenes with emphasis on making strong, imaginative choices rooted in character and text.

Act III Advanced Scene Study 
Tuesdays, 7-10 p.m., June 18 - August 6, 2013
Delve deeper into technique—script analysis, performance and the ability to create a character – with emphasis on action and objective.

Actors Workshop - Look for this class in a future session.
Mondays, 7-10 p.m.
Receive private coaching in a group environment with emphasis on relaxation in performance, scene work, characterization and script analysis.

Improvisation I
Tuesdays, 7-10 p.m., June 18 - August 6, 2013
Focus on acting, characterization, creativity and spontaneity through improvised scenes and theatre games. In this fast paced, fun workshop, the emphasis is on thinking quickly, making stronger choices, and increasing confidence.

Advanced Improvisation - Look for this class in a future session.
Continue the challenge and creative freedom of improvisation. Be pushed to think faster, make stronger choices, and trust instincts. For those who have taken Improvisation here or elsewhere.

Acting for the Camera - Look for this class in a future session.
Mondays, 7-10 p.m.,
Make the acting adjustment from the stage to the intimacy of the camera in a fun, supportive learning environment.

Musical Theatre  - Look for this class in a future session.
Mondays, 7-10 p.m.,
Approach the Broadway song from the standpoint of the actor - how to act a song, not just sing it.  Starts with the idea that if you can act you can sing.


Playwriting and Screenwriting Classes

ABC's of Screenwriting
Look for this class in a future session.
Learn the alphabet of creating a dramatic film.

Intermediate Screenwriting
Look for this class in a future session.
Advance your current screenplay through character development exercises as well as further exploration of structure.

Playwriting Practicum
Look for this class in a future session.
A continuation of Intermediate/Advanced Playwriting with exercises underscoring the structure of drama.
