Bring Live Theatre to Your School!

Alex (Daniel Chaffin, center) and Ursula the Polar Bear (Tracy Rowe Mutz, right) are shown all the ways we use excess energy by Arrhenius and Fourier (Jimmy Lambert and Leena Lambert) in Your're Getting Warmer. Photo by Henry DiRocco.

For over 40 years the Educational Touring Production has been an integral part of SCR's outreach programs, hitting the road each spring with a musical show that helps bring the classroom experience to life. Nearly a million elementary school children have enjoyed and learned from the annual production over the years.

As global warming continues to be a worldwide concern and the need for energy conservation grows, we have built upon themes from past tours to more thoroughly address these issues—and thoroughly entertain our young audiences.

At Alex’s house, everything is humming along just fine. There’s plenty of electricity. for the refrigerator, microwave, washer and dryer. The TV is bigger than ever, the computer is loaded, the cell phones and iPods are charging in every room.

But the polar bear in the basement keeps turning up the air conditioner and ordering more ice. It may be the middle of winter, but it's much too warm outside. Very little rain has fallen, the trees don’t know what season it is and the flowers don’t know whether to bloom or not. Wait a minute...

Why is a polar bear in the basement? Maybe it has something to do with climate change.

Alex wants the bear to go home. The bear wants to go home. But first, Alex and the bear must find out why the North Pole isn’t what it used to be and how Alex — and everyone on earth — can discover ways to use less power and get along just fine.
