What Makes SCR’s Acting Classes for Kids and Teens Special?

The skills developed and explored in our classrooms give students the ability—and the confidence—to become creative problem solvers, inspired communicators and innovative thinkers.  These skills help them improve their school work today, excel in the job market tomorrow, and move successfully through life.

  • Our unique approach to teaching the process and the craft of acting encourages students to use their limitless potential and let their imaginations soar.
  • The core of our curriculum inspires students to work together as an ensemble as they experience the joy of acting, make new friends and have a great time with their peers.

Designed as a progressive multi-year program, each class is divided into three, ten-week sessions (fall, winter, spring). Students may enter in fall or winter. The spring session is for returning students only.

  • Open to all—beginners to serious acting students.
  • Peer classes (kids grades 3-4 and 5-6, teens grades 7-8 and 9-12).
  • Taught by a faculty of theatre professionals in the safe, air-conditioned Education Center.

Classes meet weekly at Tony Award-winning South Coast Repertory, which has been at the forefront of theatre in America for nearly 50 years. From the outset, the Theatre Conservatory and its staff of professional working artists have been an integral part of SCR, with the goals of laying a strong training foundation and enriching the lives of all its students.

“I’ve seen my children’s confidence grow exponentially thanks to the training they’ve received at SCR. They both have a profound appreciation for the power of language and imagination and can see for themselves the impact words and stories have on people. I have no idea where life will lead them, but I can say with certainty that whatever path they choose, it will be a road paved with the lessons they learned at SCR. “
