Professional Actor Training Curriculum

Carefully designed to reinforce a broad range of skills, and provide specialized attention to the needs of each individual. Classes meet 10am to 4:30pm, five days a week, in SCR's Education Center Studios, the Julianne Argyros Stage, the Nicholas Studio and throughout the Folino Theatre Center.

  • Acting: Refine the foundation for acting technique—the individual process of shaping a script into a performance—with special emphasis on rehearsal skills.
  • Theatre Audition Technique: Choose and perform theatre pieces for audition; develop confidence in cold reading (under the direction of Casting Director Joanne DeNaut).
  • Voice/Dialects: Increase vocal flexibility, power and relaxation.
  • Film and Television Audition Technique: Discuss and perform scenes from teleplays; correctly structure resumes and choose appropriate headshots.
  • Shakespeare: Perform and analyze monologues and scenes to explore Shakespeare's use of language and create text-based characterization.
  • Comedy and Improvisation: Expand creativity and confidence to better work on your feet and handle unexpected situations. Application to team work.
  • Michael Chekov Technique: Advanced techniques based on the teachings of Michael Chekov: Develop the actor's body in such a way that it can respond truthfully and completely to all emotions and impulses and provide tools for creating believable and interesting characters.
