West Coast Premiere of Ordinary Days Opens on SCR’s Argyros Stage Underwritten by Pam and Jim Muzzy
COSTA MESA, CA, January 8, 2010 – The New Year got off to a musically pleasing start on the Julianne Argyros Stage with Adam Gwon’s Ordinary Days, an eighty-minute delight in which four young New Yorkers trying to find their way in life connect through a series of funny and fortuitous events. Directed by Ethan McSweeny, the play is underwritten by SCR Trustee Pam Muzzy and her husband Jim.
In his curtain remarks, Artistic Director Martin Benson talked about the excitement generated by Gwon’s new play. “As we look toward the future of theatre in America, we see so many talented artists emerging. One of the most talked about is the young composer Adam Gwon, and we are pleased to present this imaginative new production of Ordinary Days to Orange County audiences. I’m also happy to announce that SCR has awarded a commission for another musical to Adam and playwright Octavio Solis.”
Benson was joined by Producing Artistic Director David Emmes, who added that when new work makes it to the stage at SCR, generous underwriting enables the theatre to bring all the elements together for the best possible production. “And generous is just what tonight’s producers are,” he said before introducing the Muzzys. “We are grateful for their support throughout many seasons, which has included underwriting Princess Marjorie, The Further Adventures of Hedda Gabler, two years of La Posada Mágica and last season’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone. Pam and Jim were major contributors to the Next Stage Campaign, Gala underwriters and have been Platinum Circle members since 1999.”
The artistic directors invited everyone to what they predicted would be an exciting Cast Party at AnQi, South Coast Plaza’s newest and hippest restaurant.
Among First Nighters and guests were the Honorary Producers’ son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Cathy Muzzy; Beth and Tom Phelps with Kelly and Jim Mazzo and Rhiannon and Greg Spierkel; Adeline and Robert Mah; Betty and S.L. Huang with Hoa and Jim Campbell; Sophie and Larry Cripe with John Drachman and Laura Shapiro and William and Amy Sokol; Gwyn Grenrock; Wade Hopper; Ardelle St. George and Don Carnegie; Nancy and Kim Kelley with Marilyn and Mike Elmer; Gail and Ernie Doe with Lonny and Alan Bartz; and Suzan Paek with her daughter Jessica.
