Press Release - Summer Acting Workshop

Spaces Still Available for SCR’s Summer Acting Workshop

COSTA MESA, CA. – There are still spaces available for South Coast Repertory’s Summer Acting Workshop.  The popular two-week introduction to theatre for kids in 3rd through 12th grades offers a choice of two sessions (July 27–August 8 or August 10-22).

According to Theatre Conservatory Director Hisa Takakuwa, “In our program, kids looking for new experiences will have the freedom to unlock their creative imaginations, learn about theatre—and have a great time.  With two sessions to choose from, families can make end-of-the-summer travel plans and still have time for the Summer Acting Workshop before school starts

A faculty of professional instructors leads students through a fun-filled exploration of voice, movement, creative play-making and character development.  So that they will be able to interact with their peers, classes are divided into Youth (grades 3-4 and 5-6), Jr. Teens (grades 7-8) and Teens (grades 9-12).  Students choose from classes held 9 a.m. – noon or 1 – 4 p.m. in state-of-the-art air-conditioned classrooms.  At the end of each session, they learn first-hand the importance of working together, as all students perform on one of SCR’s three stages before an invited audience of family and friends.

Summer Theatre Workshop graduates have an opportunity to sign up for the year-round Theatre Conservatory’s Youth and Teen Programs beginning September 16.  After one year of training, they may audition for roles in the annual production of A Christmas Carol, and after two years, they are eligible to try out for the Players performance group, which presents two weekends of spring shows in the Nicholas Studio.

Tuition for the two-week session is $305 ($30 discount of each additional sibling).  Classes fill up quickly and immediate enrollment is suggested.  Call (714) 708-5577.  More information is available at www.scr.org.
