THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES
November 7 - 23, 2008
Julianne Argyros Stage
TALES OF A FOURTH GRADE NOTHING
based on the book by Judy Blume
adapted for the stage by Bruce Mason directed by Jessica Kubzansky
Judy Blume's enormously popular book hits the stage with hilarity, and
sibling rivalry has never been so much fun. Well, two-year-old Fudge is
having fun, and so is the audience. But big brother Peter has had enough.
When Fudge isn't throwing tantrums or scribbling on Peter's homework, he's
eating flowers. But when Peter's turtle ends up in Fudge's tummy, it’s time
for drastic measures!
Author:
Judy Blume studied at New York University (1960), married in 1959, and was divorced in 1976. Bored with suburban life, she developed a creative outlet in writing and illustrating children's stories. After many rejection slips, she published Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret (1970), Blubber (1974), Tiger Eyes (1981), and several other novels for teenagers, that broke new ground in their frank treatment of sensitive issues.
Playwright:
Bruce Mason is an award-winning director and writer for theatre, film and television. In 1997, the Kennedy Center mounted his play Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and toured it nationally. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Bruce was educated at Emerson College in Boston, and at the AFI in Los Angeles.
Recommendation and Resources:
Theatre for Young Audiences … and Their Families is just that,
a multi-generational experience for all ages (except children under the age of 4 and babes in arms).
The only requirement is that each audience member occupy a seat and
sit quietly through the performance while having a wonderful time!
