Gala Chair Sophie Cripe Sparks Enthusiasm Wherever She Goes (and she goes everywhere!)
Not only does Gala Chair Sophie Cripe hold the all-time record for Gala meetings attended (currently at 30), she enjoys every one of them, and her enthusiasm is catching.
“She asks questions, contributes ideas—and, best of all, brings a spirit of fun to meetings,” said Cuisine Co-Chair Gail Doe.
At the last full committee meeting on June 30, Sophie and the subcommittee chairs revealed all the details (except for a few secrets which will be saved until the big night) about “The Play’s the Thing” Gala, to be held Saturday, September 11, 6pm until midnight at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa.
Some tidbits:
Underwriting Co-Chair (with Teri Kennady) Olivia Johnson wore a tiara to represent her role as the queen of money—of which she expects the Gala Committee to raise plenty, in support SCR’s Annual Fund, currently at 2/3 of goal, with ten weeks to go.
For an invite like no other in O.C. party history, watch your mail the week of July 19!
Entertainment Co-Chair (with Elizabeth An) Betty Huang couldn’t contain her joy that John Tu’s California Dreamin’ band—an SCR favorite—will be back, with his signature after dinner music that's “happy feet danceable,” including a special surprise performance (which will remain a secret!).
“Spectacular” is how Cuisine Co-Chair (with Ashley Aitken) Gail Doe describes the dinner as presented by Chef Chris Savage.
There’ll be more to SCR’s Gala Ball reception than cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Look for theatrical entertainment and the opportunity to mingle with the world's top playwrights—and characters from their plays!
The traditional Patron Party to honor table hosts and underwriters and set the tone for the Gala will be held at the stunning Laguna Beach home of SCR Trustee Mary Ann Brown and her husband Rick Reiff on August 18.
