SCR’S “A Christmas Carol” — A Family Affair
35th anniversary cast includes 16 Theatre Conservatory students
COSTA MESA, Calif. (Nov. 7, 2014) - During their first week of rehearsal, 16 students in SCR’s Theatre Conservatory—who portray the children in South Coast Repertory’s 35th annual production of A Christmas Carol—gathered for a group photograph with Director John-David Keller. Adhering to a time-honored tradition, everyone—including the director—donned Christmas scarves for the occasion.
The young actors alternate in eight roles, allowing them time to share the holidays at home with their families—as well as onstage with the SCR family, which includes Hal Landon Jr., SCR’s one and only Scrooge. Both Keller and Landon will celebrate their 35th year with the show that marks the beginning of the holiday season in Orange County.
Keller holds auditions for the children’s roles, choosing from students with at least a year of Theatre Conservatory training.
“Our actors and other artists are a very special group,” he said. “Most of them are veterans of numerous productions; however, with one exception, the youngsters are all newcomers to the show, and it’s great fun to see the joyful fresh faces and welcome them to our cast of professionals. That’s especially true this year,” he added, “as we celebrate the 35th anniversary.”
The young actors include Alexis Cueva/Katherine Parrish (Martha Cratchit), Joshua Myran/Mitchell Huntley (Peter Cratchit), Emily McDaniel/Zoe Hebbard (Belinda Cratchit), Jacqueline Vellandi/Aoife McEvoy (Tiny Tim), Karoline Ribak/Sophia Utria (Fan/Teen Girl), Olivia Drury/Bella Browne (Girl About Town), Benjamin Susskind/London Walston (Young Ebenezer/Oliver Shelley), William Lynam/Maximos Harris (Turkey Boy).
