Peter and the Starcatcher, Final Play of SCR’s 2014-15 Season, Underwritten by Bette & Wylie Aitken and Alan & Olivia Slutzky

COSTA MESA, CA, May 15, 2015.  South Coast Repertory Board President Sophie Cripe welcomed First Nights subscribers to Peter and the Starcatcher, the final play of the season—and one for the entire family.  Directed by Art Manke, this imaginative prequel to Peter Pan  is underwritten by Bette ​& Wylie Aitken and Alan ​& Olivia Slutzky, as well as Corporate Associate Producers Haskell & White LLP and MUFG Union Bank.

After acknowledging Founding Artistic Directors David Emmes and Martin Benson, Cripe introduced Artistic Director Marc Masterson and Managing Director Paula Tomei.

Masterson talked about the excitement generated by the play throughout the theatre.  “Everyone had a lot of fun over the past few weeks of rehearsal—and it was catching,” he said.  “You’ll see the happy results of that camaraderie in the show tonight.  Peter and the Starcatcher is a popular play that has been on Broadway and on the road, but this is unlike anything you’ve experienced—so enjoy!”

Cripe acknowledged the individual underwriters, who helped make it possible to mount a big production with a 14-member cast, noting their support not just of Peter and the Starcatcher but through the years.

Wylie Aitken is a former board president, and Bette currently serves as vice president, community relations.  They have helped underwrite three plays as members of the Playwrights Circle and six as individual producers, as well as the 2008 Pacific Playwrights Festival.  Bette and Wylie are major contributors to the Legacy and Next Stage campaigns.

Alan Slutzky was introduced to SCR by his parents back in the early days and now serves on the Board of Trustees as vice president, development.  This is the third production underwritten by Alan and Olivia, who were also members of the Playwrights Circle that helped produce the world premiere of The Parisian Woman.

 “These four dedicated SCR supporters have done all this—and much more,” Cripe said, “so please read about them in your program.” 

Tomei acknowledged Corporate Associate Producers Haskell & White LLP, represented by Rick Smetanka, partner; and Union Bank, represented by Joan Kaloustian, managing director, corporate communications and marketing.   Finally, she introduced Media Partner 89.3 KPPC, represented by Underwriting Executive Mary Marcus,  and encouraged everyone to enjoy the show and the Cast Party afterwards—the final one of the season—on Ela’s Terrace.
