About the Pacific Playwrights Festival
SCR’s Pacific Playwrights Festival, part of the theatre’s renowned play development program, The Lab@SCR, is nationally recognized as one of the must-see showcases of the best in playwriting talent. Every year, hundreds of theatre professionals and theatre fans are treated to new and hidden works that in many cases, don’t stay hidden for long. Since the first Festival in 1998, SCR has presented 161 new plays, with 85% of those Festival plays going on to productions at SCR and/or other theatres.
Those include such award-winning plays as Lucas Hnath's A Doll's House, Part 2, Lauren Yee's Cambodian Rock Band, Qui Nguyen's Vietgone, Lynn Nottage’s Intimate Apparel, Nilo Cruz’s Anna in the Tropics, Julia Cho’s The Language Archive and David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole. It also includes the two full productions anchoring this year’s Festival—You Are Cordially Invited to the End of the World! by Keiko Green and The Staircase by Noa Gardner.
Joining those two full productions at this year’s Festival—running May 2-4—are five play readings. rachel, nevada by jose sebastian alberdi, The Red Man by JuCoby Johnson, Eat Me by Talene Monahon, Ten Grand by Kate Cortesi and Trip Around the Sun by Jake Brasch.
