Meet the Cast of “The Incredible Book Eating Boy”
A talented five-person cast that includes two SCR veterans will bring The Incredible Book Eating Boy to life for audiences, Feb. 28-March 16 on the Julianne Argyros Stage.
Joslynn Cortes (Ms. Penny/Mom/Artist/Others) returns for the second time this season, after making her SCR debut as Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors. Some of her previous acting credits include Junie B. Jones in Junie B. Jones the Musicaland Arlene in Garfield the Musical with Cattitude at Walnut Street Theatre, Anita in West Side Story at Glow Lyric Theatre and Claire in Ordinary Days at The Wayward Artist. She is a graduate of AMDA College and Conservatory of the Performing Arts and teaches voice at Vocal Love.
Adam Leiva makes his SCR debut as Henry, the incredible book eating boy. Some of his previous roles include Tobias Ragg in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Angel in Rent, both at Chance Theater. He has been singing since the age of four, and knew he wanted to be an actor when he was 11 years old.
Brian Kim McCormick (Dad/Host/Others) returns to South Coast Repertory after previously appearing as Schroeder in Outside SCR’s You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown and as an understudy for Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. His regional credits include The Sound of Music at Musical Theatre West, Chimerica at Quantum Theatre and Aubergine at San Diego Repertory, among many others. As a voiceover artist, McCormick can be heard on cartoons like “Pokémon,” many English dubs including “Squid Game” and several video games and audiobooks.
Erica Schaeffer (Olivia/Doctor/Others) makes her SCR debut. She began dance training at the age of three and singing around 10. Schaeffer discovered she could do both at the same time her freshman year of high school. Her previous regional theatre credits include 42nd Street at 3-D Theatricals, The Sound of Music at McCoy Rigby Entertainment and Lucille Frank in Parade at Chance Theater, among others. She earned her BFA in Music Theatre from UC Irvine.
Bradley Sharper (Rover/Jeff/Others) also makes his SCR debut. After growing up in southern Maryland, he came to Los Angeles by way of New York. He plays in a rock band called Sharper’s Florist, and was recently in Starmites: The Space-Age Musical at Open Fist Theatre Company. He has a BFA from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City.
