What Awaits You With Hershey Felder as “George Gershwin Alone”?

Unless you are of a certain age, seeing or hearing George Gershwin perform his iconic compositions live is impossible. Considered one of America’s greatest composers, Gershwin died at age 38 in 1937.

Almost 90 years later, Hershey Felder brings Gershwin to life on stage in Hershey Felder as George Gershwin Alone, which runs Jan. 18-28, 2024 on the Julianne Argyros Stage.

What awaits you is the closest thing to hearing Gershwin live during his Jazz Age heyday. Hershey Felder as George Gershwin Alone features the music and lyrics of Gershwin and his brother, Ira, with a book by Hershey Felder. The production is directed by Joel Zwick.

Illustrating how Gershwin shaped a distinctly American style of music, Felder explores Gershwin’s short, but extraordinary life through many of his most beloved songs, ranging from “Fascinating Rhythm,” “I Got Rhythm,” “’S Wonderful,” and “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” to excerpts from Gershwin’s groundbreaking musicals like Porgy and Bess and An American in Paris. Felder also performs Gershwin’s magnum opus—“Rhapsody in Blue.”

Born in Los Angeles on the stage of the now-gone Tiffany Theatre on Sunset Boulevard 25 years ago, Hershey Felder as George Gershwin Alone has played to audiences worldwide more than 3,000 times, from Los Angeles to South Korea to London’s West End. This presentation is part of his farewell tour for this play with music.

Felder’s performances were declared, “’S Wonderful, 'S Marvelous!” by The Washington Post, “sheer joy” by the San Francisco Chronicle, and “glorious. Poignant, moving and fascinating” by USA Today.

Tickets are selling fast for Hershey Felder as George Gershwin Alone, with many performances of the run nearly sold out.

Good seats remain for the three added performances, Thursday, Jan. 25, Friday, Jan. 26 and Sunday, Jan. 28. All begin at 7:45 p.m.
