Meet the 2026 Fun in the Sun Honoree:
Richard Soto is a prolific actor, teaching artist, fight director, and writer. For more than 30 years, South Coast Repertory has been his creative home, where he has served as an actor, stage manager, and instructor.
For over two decades, Richard has been a dedicated faculty member of SCR’s Theatre Conservatory, inspiring countless students of all ages to explore and pursue their passion for theatre. Deeply committed to the art of storytelling, he creates dynamic and inclusive classroom environments that encourage students from diverse backgrounds to develop their creativity, self-expression, and empathy.
On stage, Richard has been a beloved presence at SCR for many years, appearing in A Christmas Carol for 17 seasons. He currently portrays the cherished role of Spirit of Christmas Past.
Beyond his work at SCR, Richard’s other credits include San Diego Rep, The Old Globe, A Noise Within and adjunct professor of stage combat at Vanguard University. He is currently working on projects for theatre, television and film that involve his passions for people, art, history, education, comic books and making the world a better place.
