Garrett Thomas Deagon* (Narrator/Mysterious Man, Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf, Rapunzel’s Prince/Steward Understudy) played Rooster for 580 performances on the national and international tours of Annie, directed by the musical’s original director and lyricist, Martin Charnin. He also toured internationally with Mamma Mia! and is a founding member of the vocal group UNITY. Deagon holds a BFA in Music Theatre from UC Irvine. You can catch him as “Rim the Reaper” in the newest season of “The Eric Andre Show” on Adult Swim and Hulu.

Michael Deni* (Cinderella's Prince/Wolf) is thrilled to be joining the cast of Into the Woods for his South Coast Repertory debut! Chamblee Ferguson* (Narrator/Mysterious Man) is delighted to make his South Coast Rep debut with Into the Woods. He was in the first national tour and Broadway company of Come From Away where he played Nick. Ferguson performed in 23 seasons at the Dallas Theater Center where he was a resident company member. Other regional theaters include Alley Theatre, Trinity Repertory Company, Stage West Theatre, Casa Mañana and Florida Stage. His television and film credits include “Law & Order,” “FBI,” “The Equalizer,” “American Crime,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Prison Break,” A Scanner Darkly, Parkland, and PBS’ “Wishbone.” He’s a 2011 Lunt-Fontanne Fellow and received his MFA from Southern Methodist University. Jake Stiel (Jack/The Baker Understudy) is thrilled to be back at South Coast Repertory! Born and raised in New York, he received his BA in Theatre & Performance from Bard College, where he appeared in Three Sisters, directed by Whitney White. After graduating, Stiel moved back to New York City and worked in production and artist relations at Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater, supporting a wide range of multidisciplinary artists and new works. At Joe’s Pub, he contributed to the development and presentation of concerts, theatrical performances and special events. Stephen Sondheim (Music & Lyrics) (1930-2021) wrote the music and lyrics for Saturday Night (1954), A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum (1962), Anyone Can Whistle (1964), Company (1970), Follies (1971), A Little Night Music (1973), The Frogs (1974), Pacific Overtures (1976), Sweeney Todd (1979), Merrily We Roll Along (1981), Sunday tn the Park with George (1984), Into the Woods (1987), Assassins (1991), Passion (1994), Road Show (2008) and HERE WE ARE (2023), as well as the lyrics for West Side Story (1957), Gypsy (1959), Do I Hear a Waltz? (1965) and additional lyrics for Candide (1973). Side by Side by Sondheim (1976), Marry Me a Little (1981), You're Gonna Love Tomorrow (1983), Putting It Together (1993/99), Moving On (2001), Sondheim On Sondheim (2010) and Old Friends (2023) are anthologies of his work as composer and lyricist. For films, he composed the scores of Stavisky (1974), co-composed the score for Reds (1981) and wrote songs for Dick Tracy (1990). He wrote songs for the television production "Evening Primrose" (1966), co-authored the film The Last of Sheila (1973) and the play Getting Away with Murder (1996) and provided incidental music for the plays The Girls of Summer (1956), Invitation to a March (1961), Twigs (1971) and The Enclave (1973). He won the Tony Award for Best Score for Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Passion, all of which won the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award, as did Pacific Overtures and Sunday in the Park with George, the latter also receiving the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (1985). Sondheim was born and raised in New York City. He graduated from Williams College, winning the Hutchinson Prize for Music Composition, and then studied theory and composition with Milton Babbitt. He served on the Council of the Dramatists Guild, the national association of playwrights, composers and lyricists, and served as its president from 1973 to 1981. In 1983, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and in 1990, was appointed the first Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre at Oxford University. He was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 1993, the National Medal of Arts in 1996, the MacDowell Medal in 2013 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015. His collected lyrics with attendant essays have been published in two volumes: "Finishing the Hat" (2010) and "Look, I Made a Hat" (2011). In 2010, the Broadway theatre formerly known as Henry Miller's Theatre was renamed in his honor, and in 2019, he became the first living artist to have a theatre named in his honor on Shaftesbury Avenue when the refurbished Queen's Theatre in London's West End was renamed the Sondheim Theatre to commemorate his 90th birthday, by Sir Cameron Mackintosh.

James Lapine (Book) is a playwright and director. On Broadway, he has worked with Stephen Sondheim on Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods and Passion. He also conceived and directed the musical revue Sondheim on Sondheim. With William Finn, he created Falsettos, recently revived by Lincoln Center Theater, Little Miss Sunshine and Muscle, and directed Finn's The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Other Broadway credits include his play based on Moss Hart's memoir Act One (also LCT), Amour, The Diary of Anne Frank, Golden Child and Dirty Blonde. He has written the plays Table Settings, Twelve Dreams, The Moment When, Fran's Bed and Mrs. Miller Does Her Thing. Lapine has been nominated for 11 Tony Awards, winning three times. He has also received the Pulitzer Prize, the Stage Directors & Choreographers Foundation Mr. Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theater and has been inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame.

Peter Rothstein (Director) is the Producing Artistic Director of Asolo Repertory Theatre, where he recently directed Fiddler on the Roof, the world premiere of Ken Ludwig’s Lady Molly of Scotland Yard, and the U.S. premiere of The Unfriend. Rothstein was the Founding Artistic Director of Theatre Latté Da in Minneapolis, where he staged 92 main-stage productions, including 14 world premieres and 14 area premieres. Other credits include Guthrie Theater, Children’s Theatre Company, 5th Avenue Theatre, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Minnesota Opera, Boston Opera and Chicago Opera Theatre. He is the creator of All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914, which premiered in a live broadcast on Minnesota Public Radio and has since been broadcast around the globe. Wiley DeWeese (Music Director) returns to SCR, where he previously music directed Million Dollar Quartet and Prelude to a Kiss, The Musical. Broadway credits include The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, Girl from the North Country, Company and Amélie. Off-Broadway credits include Soon, All the World’s a Stage, Whisper House, The Lucky Ones, The Wildness, First Daughter Suite and Preludes. Regionally his work has been seen at American Repertory Theater, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Children’s Theatre Company, Center Theatre Group, Hartford Stage and TheaterWorks Hartford. Adam Koch (Scenic Design) designed A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical on Broadway. Additional credits include off-Broadway, national tours and projects around the world, including Dreamgirls (Seoul); Sister Act (Tokyo); Pretty Woman, Mean Girls (São Paulo) and the original production of Million Dollar Quartet which ran for over 3,000 performances in Chicago. Lonnie Rafael Alcaraz (Lighting Design) recently designed Pericles for the Great River Shakespeare Festival, A Raisin in the Sun for Oregon Shakespeare Festival and I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter for Denver Center for the Performing Arts. He has been touring Eastern Europe with LifeLines for Transversal Theater Company, next stop in Montenegro in October. Recent designs at SCR include Million Dollar Quartet and the SCR Gala 2025; he will return to design the 2026 Gala. He has a long-standing creative relationship with Culture Clash and recently designed their 40th Anniversary Gala celebrations in Los Angeles and San Diego. His work at SCR spans more than three decades, beginning in 1994, with designs including A Raisin in the Sun, American Mariachi, A Shot Rang Out, Outside Mullingar, The Whipping Man, Long Road Today/ El Largo Camino de Hoy, La Posada Mágica, Culture Clash in AmeriCCa, Doubt—A Parable, My Wandering Boy and many others. Noel Nichols, UptownWorks (Sound Design) is a dynamic team of sound designers that creates collaboratively for theatre, film, podcasts, music production and other media. Anthony Zediker (Associate Music Director) is a Los Angeles-based music director, conductor and pianist. Most recently he music directed and conducted Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Musical Theatre West and Mean Girls at La Mirada Theatre. He debuted at the Pantages Theatre as a keyboard sub for the Broadway national tour of Some Like it Hot, playing the show in Costa Mesa and D.C. as well. From 2023-24 he served as the children’s music director and associate conductor of the North American tour of Annie.
