Meet the Cast of "La Havana Madrid"

Led by playwright Sandra Delgado, who plays the title character in her La Havana Madrid, the cast for the Outside SCR production features a mix of SCR veterans and newcomers.

One of the most decorated artists in her native Chicago, Delgado brings 20 years of experience on stages ranging from her Chicago theatre homes of Teatro Vista and Collaboraction, to the Goodman, Steppenwolf, Victory Gardens and Lookingglass theatres, to off-Broadway, where she starred as Jocasta in The Public Theater’s production of Oedipus el Rey by Luis Alfaro. She received the Theatre Communications Group’s Fox Foundation Resident Actor Fellowship in the Extraordinary Potential Category.

Delgado’s other awards include a United States Artist Fellowship, NALAC Grant, Illinois Arts Council Fellowship in Literature, 3Arts Award, Joyce Award, TCG Resident Actor Fellowship, and the 2017 Latina Professional of the Year Award from the Chicago Latino Network.

Joining Delgado, who makes her SCR debut, are returners Eduardo Enrikez, who plays Henry, and Marlene Martinez, who plays Maruja.

Enrikez played Sebastian Jose Castillo in SCR’s 2016 production of Destiny of Desire. He also played Young Marley and Joe in last winter’s production of A Christmas Carol. Enrikez is familiar with the Mission stage, having played Mateo Campos/ René/Rubén/Los Muchachos in the 2021 Outside SCR production of American Mariachi. Enrikez just finished playing Emilio in the West End production of The Wedding Singer. His previous West End credits include the original production of the musical On Your Feet, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), Eating Raoul, Time Square Angels, Saturday Night Feverand Hair. Among Enrikez’s numerous regional credits are The Wedding Singer, Miss Saigon, Ragtime and Sweet Charity Cabaret.

Martinez played Mrs. Popper in the Theatre for Young Audiences and Families 2016 production of Mr. Popper’s Penguins. She also previously appeared at SCR in the Pacific Playwrights Festival 2019 reading of Prelude to a Kiss, The Musical. Martinez returns to SCR after playing Tania in the TheatreWorks Silicon Valley comedy Native Gardens. She performed in the Broadway national tours of Mamma Mia! and West Side Story and has appeared on stage with Kristin Chenoweth, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Doobie Brothers and Chicago.

Maria Jimena Gastelum (Maria) makes her SCR debut after appearing as Frankie in the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute (LSTFI) production of Sam Shepard’s Icarus’s Mother. Earlier at LSTFI, Gastelum played June-Adele Taylor in Southern Girls. Raised in Tijuana, Mexico, Gastelum played Glinda, The Good Witch at the Tijuana Cultural Centre’s production of The Wizard of Oz. She began her career at the Center for the Scenic Arts in Tijuana, where she played Mrs. Pugh/Connie Boylan in Annie. Gastelum also appeared in Netflix's of “Selena: The Series.”

Chicago-based actor Cruz Gonzalez-Cadel originated the role of Myrna in the world premiere of La Havana Madrid. An ensemble member and artistic producer at Teatro Vista, Gonzalez-Cadel’s other Chicago credits include performances of Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Goodman Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre Company and Court Theatre. Her film and television credits include Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Rounding, “Fargo,” “Chicago Med” and “Empire.”

Luis Herrera (Carlos) makes his West Coast debut at SCR after appearing off-Broadway in Aloha Boricua at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater and regionally in Guys and Dolls and Rent (American Conservatory Theater), Man of La Mancha(Plaza Theatricals), In The Heights (Paramount Theater) and Sweeney Todd (Park Playhouse) among others.

Roberto Antonio Martin (Tony) has appeared in ABC’s “Grownish” and “For the People.” His regional theatre credits include the Arizona Theatre Company’s production of The Royale and the 2Rhythms Theatre production of Blu. Martin is training as a black belt in martial arts.

Tristan Turner (Carpacho) makes his SCR debut. He’s an alum of the UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts Graduate Acting Program with credits at Arizona Theatre Company (Pru Payne), Utah Shakespeare Festival (Twelfth Night), 5-Star Theatricals (The Addams Family) and La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts (In The Heights).
